Singing LessonsVoice lessonsfor healthy singing voice.

Florida Enrichment Academy offers singing lessons from experienced instructors with proven skills. The voice is an instrument that all of us have and can be used in all styles of music. Singing lessons teach breathing, phonation, resonance, versatility, diction, and musical expressiveness as well as sight singing, harmonizing and reading music. Lesson plans are individually tailored to enable students to cultivate their own sound and style. Proper warm up techniques are used and progression is controlled to avoid straining the voice and damaging vocal cords. The choice of repertoire will largely depend on the student’s voice and personal preferences and include rock, country, blues, musical theater, opera and jazz. Singing lessons are taught in a safe studio environment that minimizes distraction and facilitates learning. There are no ringing phones, overly friendly cats, barking dogs or “someone is at the door” interruptions you may find when teaching takes place in a home.

The typical singing lesson is forty-five minutes long and combines a fifteen-minute computer based theory session with a thirty-minute singing session. The theory session focuses on note reading, pitch and interval recognition, chords and rhythms allowing the singing instructor to concentrate on teaching the student to sing using proper singing, breathing and projection techniques. The result is a shorter learning curve and a reduction in the time it takes to become competent, confident and enjoy singing for an audience.

Florida Enrichment Academy believes that every person has the ability to sing for their own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. Singing lessons are appropriate for a child when the vocal cords have developed sufficiently that serious long-term singing will not cause damage, which is about ten years of age. Florida Enrichment Academy singing lessons enable the young student to explore their vocal range using techniques that will not damage their vocal cords. Lessons are designed to develop an exciting, yet healthy singing voice in all ages.

Studies show that singing lessons increase creative intelligence and self confidence and contribute to success in school and success in life.

  • One researcher states, “the musician is constantly adjusting decisions on tempo, tone, style, rhythm, phrasing and feeling – training the brain to become incredibly good at organizing and conducting numerous activities at once. Dedicated practice of the orchestration can have a great payoff for lifelong attention skills, intelligence and ability for self-knowledge and expression.

  • A second researcher determined that students taking music lessons receive more academic honors and awards and made better grades in high school. They also scored higher on SAT college entrance tests.

  • Another researcher found that 66% of music majors who applied to medical schools were accepted. Only 44% of biochemistry majors were accepted.

Still another researcher found that 84% of individuals making over $150,000 a year play a musical instrument regularly.

Acquiring an Instrument

The primary singing instrument, the voice, is part of the student. Florida Enrichment Academy educates students in pitch, interval and rhythm recognition, sight-reading skills and the ability to project their voice as it’s own natural microphone. With these skills, the student can sing, practice and perform without the need for a piano, keyboard or other back-up instrument.
