Florida Enrichment Academy offers Piano lessons from experienced instructors with proven skills. Lesson plans are individually tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. Motivation is enhanced by concentrating on styles of music of interest to the student including rock, country, blues, metal, classical and jazz. Lessons are taught in a safe studio environment that minimizes distraction and facilitates learning. There are no ringing phones, overly friendly cats, barking dogs or “someone is at the door” interruptions you may find when teaching takes place in your home or a teacher’s home.
The typical Piano lessons is forty-five minutes long and combines a fifteen-minute computer based theory session with a thirty-minute session on the piano. The theory session focuses on note reading, pitch and interval recognition, chords and rhythms allowing the piano instructor to concentrate on teaching the student to play the piano using proper techniques. The result is a shorter learning curve and a reduction in the time it takes to become competent and enjoy playing.
Florida Enrichment Academy believes that every person has the ability to play the piano for their own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. Piano students will learn proper playing technique, note reading, pitch recognition, rhythm, and other skills necessary to play the piano well. The goal is to open the student’s mind to the fantastic possibilities of the instrument. Lesson plans are individually developed to meet the goals of the casual pianist playing for their own enjoyment, the student aspiring to play the keyboard in a rock band, or the more serious piano student desiring to learn perform well enough to be accepted in a university music department.
For the younger musician there are many reasons for starting with the piano before moving to another instrument or taking voice lessons. Here are just a few:
The piano is an easy instrument to play. Playing requires only pressing keys.
Many notes can be played on the piano simultaneously offering an opportunity to learn harmony (chords) as well as melody and rhythm.
Learning to play the piano provides a strong music knowledge foundation and an ideal springboard to accelerate the learning process for playing other instruments or singing.
Unlike most other instruments, the piano does not require tuning each time it is played (assuming the piano is tuned annually).
Studies show that piano lessons increase creative intelligence and contribute to success in school and success in life.
One researcher states, “the musician is constantly adjusting decisions on tempo, tone, style, rhythm, phrasing and feeling – training the brain to become incredibly good at organizing and conducting numerous activities at once. Dedicated practice of the orchestration can have a great payoff for lifelong attention skills, intelligence and ability for self-knowledge and expression.
A second researcher determined that students taking music lessons receive more academic honors and awards and made better grades in high school. They also scored higher on SAT college entrance tests.
Another researcher found that 66% of music majors who applied to medical schools were accepted. Only 44% of biochemistry majors were accepted.
Still another researcher found that 84% of individuals making over $150,000 a year play the piano or other musical instrument regularly.
Acquiring an Instrument
There are several options for acquiring an instrument. An electric keyboard with standard sized keys is enough for the first year. Keyboards can be purchased for under $150 or rented through Florida Enrichment Academy arrangements for $25 a month. Used pianos can be purchased for less than $1,000 or rented for $60 per month
