Guitar Lessons

Florida Enrichment Academy offers Guitar lessons from experienced instructors with proven skills. Lesson plans are individually tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. Motivation is enhanced by concentrating on styles of music of interest to the student including rock, country, blues, shred, metal, classical and jazz. Lessons are taught in a safe studio environment that minimizes distraction and facilitates learning. There are no ringing phones, overly friendly cats, barking dogs or “someone is at the door” interruptions you may find when teaching takes place in a home.

The typical lesson is forty-five minutes long and combines a fifteen-minute computer based theory session with a thirty-minute session on the guitar. The theory session focuses on note reading, pitch and interval recognition, chords and rhythms allowing the guitar instructor to concentrate on teaching the student to play the instrument using proper techniques. The result is a shorter learning curve and a reduction in the time it takes to become competent and enjoy playing.

Florida Enrichment Academy believes that every person has the ability to play the guitar for their own enjoyment and the enjoyment of others. Our guitar teachers enable the student to go far beyond strumming chords and reading tablature notations. Students will learn proper playing technique, note reading, pitch recognition, rhythm, and other skills necessary to play the guitar well. Our goal is to open the student’s mind to the fantastic possibilities of the instrument. With modern technology hundreds of different sounds can be produced in order to capture the unique sounds familiar to rock metal jazz blues and R & B. Lesson plans are individually developed to meet the goals of the singer/writer acoustical guitar player, the electric guitar or bass player in a band, or the more serious guitar student desiring to learn classical guitar well enough to be accepted in a university music department.

Studies show that guitar lessons, beyond strumming chords and reading tablatures, increase creative intelligence and contribute to success in school and success in life.

  • One researcher states, “the musician is constantly adjusting decisions on tempo, tone, style, rhythm, phrasing and feeling – training the brain to become incredibly good at organizing and conducting numerous activities at once. Dedicated practice of the orchestration can have a great payoff for lifelong attention skills, intelligence and ability for self-knowledge and expression.

  • A second researcher determined that students taking music lessons receive more academic honors and awards and made better grades in high school. They also scored higher on SAT college entrance tests.

  • Another researcher found that 66% of music majors who applied to medical schools were accepted. Only 44% of biochemistry majors were accepted.

  • Still another researcher found that 84% of individuals making over $150,000 a year play a guitar or another musical instrument regularly.

Acquiring an Instrument

Students generally start lessons with an acoustical guitar. There are several options for acquiring an instrument. An old guitar laying around the house that, with new strings and some adjustment, would meet the needs of the beginning student. Acoustical guitars appropriately size to fit the student can be purchased though a Florida Enrichment Academy arrangement $50 to $75. Later, as the student progresses and determines what they want to do with their guitar playing skills, a better acoustic or electric guitar may be needed.
